Recently, there has been a great deal of interest and nostalgia regarding several of the Television icons many in the Philadelphia area grew up adoring; such as, Gene London, Pixanne and Chief Halftown. One such character who often goes overlooked is “Goldie the Bunny”, a regular on Sally Starr’s Popeye Theater.
Goldie was a statuesque Golden clad rabbit which served as a representative for one of Sally’s sponsors “Golden Square Trading Stamps” (hence the name “Goldie”) “Goldie” was a daily fixture on Popeye Theatre as well as at many personal appearances (as Bunny Iris) in the late fifties to early sixties and was lovingly portrayed by Iris Hunter. Ms. Hunter also graced many of the New York, Pennsylvania and New Jersey Theater stages working under the name Iris Kramer as well as maintaining an impressive recording and film career, appearing in “The Block” with Lillian Reis. This
site is a tribute to
“Goldie”
and her talents!
Though no
longer gracing the stage and screen, she lovingly spent her
time focusing on her “favorite”
productions; Husband Arthur and (grown) children Marc, Bonnie
(also a performer) and Scott. Sadly, Iris passed away in 2017.
If you have any questions or comments, please feel free to contact “Goldie”; we’d love to hear from you!
